Recently, many Catholic bloggers have been having a bit of fun with the Chicago city council's decision to ban fois gras. I admit, on the surface it's quite hilarious that in a city with our murder rate, this is what our politicians are worrying about. (Frankly, I'm just glad to see they're worrying about anything.)
I was going to overlook this, but I thought people might like to know what our Holy Father said:
"Certainly, a sort of industrial use of creatures, so that geese are fed in such a way as to produce as large a liver as possible, or hens live so packed together that they become just caricatures of birds, this degrading of living creatures to a commodity seems to me in fact to contradict the realtionship of mutuality that comes across in the Bible."
